This exceptional program will bring together experienced school principals and system leaders from across Australia who are committed to contributing to and leading innovative, exciting and responsive schooling for all young people. Step outside your environment to lift your strategic thinking and set yourself a clear path to lead the achievement of the best outcomes for students and their communities. Participants will have the support of the finest facilitators, executive coaches and a quality collegial network of exceptional leaders from sectors throughout Australia.
The program will expose participants to the most current research and policy in education.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
As a program participant, you will engage with highly-regarded education leaders to explore the latest research and examine best practice examples of highly-effective implementation of school and systems improvement
You will:
- develop a deeper understanding of your own instructional leadership
- build your knowledge of the power of well-organised school networks to build collective efficacy and drive school and system improvement
- learn how to implement and engage your senior leaders in cycles of rigorous and effective peer school reviews
- understand the role of change agent in education systems and build your capability to lead others through ever-increasing complex change

THOUGHT LEADERS
DISTINGUISHED PROFESSOR EMERITUS VIVIANE ROBINSON, FACULTY OF EDUCATION AND SOCIAL WORK AT THE UNIVERSITY OF AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND
Viviane is an organisational psychologist and a Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. Her latest book “Virtuous Educational Leadership: Doing the Right Work the Right Way” (Corwin Press, 2023) extends her previous work on student-centred leadership and school improvement by discussing those aspects of leadership character which are required for excellent performance of the role.
In her one day workshop, she will integrate explanation of the stages of school improvement with the virtues required for excellent leadership of the improvement effort. The workshop will incorporate numerous interactive activities based on participants’ own improvement challenges.
Viviane consults on leadership policy and development to several Australian jurisdictions and contributes to principal development programmes in Victoria, New South Wales and ACT. She has received awards from national and international professional and academic organisations, including the Australian Council for Educational Leaders, the New Zealand Secondary Principals Association and the US-based University Council on Educational Administration. In 2011, she was made a Fellow of the American Educational Research Association for sustained excellence in educational research. In 2017 she was elected as Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand and awarded its Mason Durie Medal in recognition of the international impact of her leadership research.
VIC ZBAR, LEADERSHIP CONSULTANT
Vic Zbar has extensive consultancy and project management experience and is recognised internationally for his writing on education and range of education reports. Prior to the establishment of Zbar Consulting, Vic was the Assistant Director of Human Resources in the Victorian Department of Education, having earlier been principal advisor to the Chief Executive, giving him an in-depth knowledge of the work of most aspects of the then Office of Schools. He is a widely published author in both education and management.
MAGGIE FARRAR, EMPOWERING LEADERSHIP
Maggie has worked in London and Birmingham in senior leadership positions in schools and local authorities. She was the Director for Leadership Development, Research and Succession Planning at the National College for School Leadership in England and interim Chief Executive.
She has been instrumental in the development of a school led self improving system in England and has led the design and development of leadership programmes that support the growth of system leadership and the development of cluster based
collaborative approaches to school improvement. She currently working with over 1,700 schools on a national model of peer review and school collaborative self -improvement in England with Education Development Trust. She is also supporting the development of the National Academy of Educational Leadership in Wales, with particular reference to their leadership wellbeing strategy.
She is a leadership coach to a number of leaders and senior leadership teams.
Over the last 3 years she has worked with over 1000 leaders on strengthening their leadership and supporting their own wellbeing and the wellbeing of others. This has included fostering practices that reduce stress, anxiety and overwhelm and increase effectiveness and resilience through the practice of compassionate leadership. She is the author of ‘Leading with Presence; it’s an inside job,’ published in 2022 by Cadogan Press.
She is a Trustee of L.E.A.D. Academy Trust and The Story Museum, Oxford; a museum dedicated to the power of story to change lives.
She was awarded the CBE for services to Education in 2014
