Leading Literacy 2019

Program Objectives

You will:

  • Understand how to implement Guskey’s model for teacher change to drive your in-school leadership project
  • Explore the latest research around reading and its relationship with engagement and motivation, teaching comprehension, and developing life-long writers
  • Engage in activities that can be replicated back at school
  • Investigate leadership capabilities that positively influence student outcomes.

Phase 1 - Program Preparation

You will receive a series of pre-readings.

Phase 2 - Two-day Workshop

You will explore and discuss initiatives to create and maintain an environment that enables exemplary literacy practices.

You will be introduced to the school based leadership project component of the program. Your project must reflect the strategic priorities of your school and focus on an initiative that will provide an opportunity for you to both, display and reflect on, your leadership capacity and school numeracy practices. Past participant project topics have included embedding reading comprehension strategies, creating cultures of inquiry through data literacy and strengthening teacher capability in data literacy, and understanding developmental progressions for effective goal-setting in reading.

Phase 3 - School Based Leadership Project and Coaching

During this phase you will work on your school based leadership project and participate in two project coaching sessions.

Phase 4 - One-day Workshop

This workshop will expand on your skills to create the conditions and practices to successfully embed quality literacy practices in your school and influence change.

Phase 5 - Reflective Learning, Mentoring and Project Submission

During this phase you will undertake mentoring and complete your school based leadership project for submission.

Phase 6 - Project Evaluation and Feedback

Your facilitator will evaluate your project and and give feedback.
