QELi is delighted to partner with LOUPE, Andrew Jones and Michael Hines to offer you The Mindful Educator – School Leader Performance and Wellbeing Face-to-Face Program.

Educators across Australia are faced with highly complex challenges, contributing to well-documented mental health and wellbeing issues. In this workshop series, school leaders will be provided with the knowledge, professional support and practical strategies to drive enhancement in school culture and climate, including both individual and collective wellbeing.

Traditional teacher wellbeing interventions are designed to address problems once they’ve occurred and often lack the contextual relevance to reliably impact practice. This their part professional learning series draws upon many years of collective research and practice working with schools and educators in Australia and right across the world. Loupe specialises in supporting educators to collectively understand and ideate interventions aligned with school strategic improvement initiatives – which empower learning leaders to drive the enhancement of team wellbeing and performance.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

Through the application of mindfulness theory, school improvement research, and leveraging systems thinking approaches, this practical whole-staff wellbeing workshop will support participants to:

  • Build capacity and efficacy of their schools’ professional workforce
  • Influence the systemic school-based factors that impact people’s wellbeing
  • Drive a more positive culture for leading, teaching and learning

Your Facilitators

Andrew Jones is an expert in learning design and teacher professional development. His research interests include School Learning Culture and Education Leadership Development. Andrew has been working in schools in a range of school settings as a teacher, principal and leadership coach for over 25 years. He led the closure and regeneration of four failing schools in the northern suburbs of Melbourne and he has a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership. Andrew now consults regularly with practitioners, researchers and policy makers across Australia and has worked extensively in New Zealand as well as the Pacific Islands, Europe and in the United States. His work with the Victorian Department of Education has been focused in the area of teacher and middle-level leadership. His work with the coaching departments of both the Melbourne and St Kilda Football Clubs, his role as Principal in Residence in the Australian Research Council’s Science of Learning Research Centre (University of Melbourne) and as education advisor at Smiling Mind, have helped to create a highly unique skill set relevant for many contexts.

Michael Hines is a Registered Psychologist and lead mindfulness expert at Smiling Mind. Mike has a passion for helping people function at their best. His expertise lies in the related fields of Mindfulness and Well-being Science and he has worked with individuals, schools, and businesses in the areas of engagement, resilience, strengths, high performance and well-being throughout his career. His passion for mindfulness stems from a personal meditation practice and professional development spanning two decades. Mike has taught Mindfulness at Monash University, UNSW and in organisations across Australia. At Smiling Mind he is responsible for the design and delivery of workshops and training across all schools, workplaces and general community programs. His role also includes content and program development, the management of external facilitators, and providing oversight and guidance in the strategic direction of Smiling Mind products and programs.
